Nikon F2 Photomic
The Nikon F2 was easily the dream camera to own. It had everything a professional photographer would ever want in a SLR camera, and more than he or she could ever afford to own. Professional photographers used it almost exclusively. The ads that Nikon ran were easily the best at the time and established the F2 as the standard bearer in professional photography.
The Nikon F2 is widely regarded as one of the finest, if not the finest, mechanical camera ever made. The F2's rivals for this crown are the German Leica M3 35 mm rangefinder, the German Rolleiflex 2.8F medium format 120 rollfilm twin-lens reflex (TLR) and the Swedish Hasselblad 500C medium format 120 rollfilm SLR.
Nikon F2 was manufactured by the Japanese optics company Nippon Kogaku from1971 to 1980.
I got mine in New York 1976.

In many ways, I wish that I hadn't made the decision to go with the AF system. Its funny that I've finally come full circle, from shooting primarily 35mm AF the past 5 years or so, and am now back to shooting manual everything medium format. Its a slower, more contemplative approach to shooting. As my mid-range Nikon bodies reach the end of their useful life (expecting the shutters to go sometime in the next couple of years), I'm looking at the F and the F2 and wishing that I didn't have so many G lenses (aperture is set from the body, not on the lens)....which means that a used F5 for F100 are going to be the best bets (great bodies, but the COST) for a body that I'll finally take to the grave with me .

The F2 feels better in the hand, though, than any 35mm I've shot...
It could be nice in my vintage camera collection... but still too expensive ;)
I had a mint F2A and I miss it. (Sigh)
Thanks for reminding me how wonderful these old cameras are.

I used to own one of these. This looks identical to my trusty old friend. I wish I still had it. Long story as to why I do not.
